Campus Carry
What is Campus Carry?
Texas Senate Bill 11 (SB 11) was signed into law by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in
June, 2015, and is often referred to as βCampus Carry.β It permits individuals with
a concealed handgun license (CHL) to carry a concealed weapon on public university
campuses in Texas beginning August 1, 2016.
The law requires university presidents to develop policies and guidelines for their
institutions. They may consult with students, staff and faculty and may consider the
nature of the student population, specific safety concerns, and the uniqueness of
the campus environment.
Campus Carry Working Group and Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯
In April 2016, the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents reviewed the Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯
campus carry policy as part of efforts to implement the provisions of Senate Bill
11. The Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯ campus carry policy was developed with input from various stakeholders
and through the efforts of the Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯ Campus Carry Working Group, which sought to
balance the needs of our widely distributed campuses and diverse campus body.
This page is meant to provide the most up-to-date news and information regarding campus
carry at Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯. As a university, Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯ will continue to strive for an environment
of collective safety as we undertake our mission of education, service and research.
The adoption of this new policy should not hinder this goal.
