Lab Facilities
Institute of Anatomical Sciences Facilities
The Institute of Anatomical Sciences includes interdisciplinary lab and learning resource facilities aimed at supporting human anatomy instruction and clinical skill acquisition. The space was designed and built from the ground up with function in mind. Lab spaces are equipped with the necessary technology to maximize resource navigation and collaborative learning.
The Institute of Anatomical Sciences includes a variety of spaces that are available for reservation including staff support when necessary.
- One- Human Gross Anatomy Lab I (Large)– 56 dissection tanks
- One- Human Gross Anatomy Lab III (Medium)- 14 dissection tanks
- Two- Educational Anatomy Labs- 3-4 dissection tanks
- One- Surgical/Clinical Skills Lab- 2 operating stations
- One- Imaging Lab- 2 full cross section cadaver specimens; digital image access
- One- Model Room- models available for check out
- One- Clinical Anatomical Research Laboratory (CARL)- 3-4 tanks/tables
Reserving Lab Facilities
Institute of Anatomical Sciences facilities may be reserved for use by internal or external groups. Internal events include Ï㽶ֱ²¥ courses or educational programs, research projects, clinical simulation, etc. External events include outside entities or educational programs. Ï㽶ֱ²¥ events will take scheduling priority over external events.
Hourly lab use charges apply, as do additional charges for special requests such as specimen preparations. Our staff can provide cadaveric specimens for your lab session, as well as staffing and consultation services. Please note, advanced notice of the need for these services is paramount in order for us to meet your needs efficiently and effectively.
To request a copy of our complete lab reservation and use guidelines or to make a reservation, click the button below. Please note that all requests require 60 days' notice.
Each dissection station contains a dissection tank, light and audiovisual booms, and two tablets to push content to the monitors. Instruction light booms contain High Definition cameras to allow projection of cadaveric dissections or anatomical variations to the monitors within the room and at each tank.
The audiovisual set up at each tank allows faculty and students seamless control of the content they use to dissect, study, learn, and teach. Students are able to navigate to various resources (personal or publicly available) on an ad hoc basis. Teaching assistants and faculty are able to conduct a dissection prosection review across the entire lab. Faculty are also able to address all students at once with a lab-wide speaker system.
- Approximately 6,600 square feet
- 250+ person capacity at 56 cadaver dissection stations
- Audiovisual boom including lights, monitor, and tablets at each station
- Instructor station with HD camera and control panel allowing content to be displayed on single screen or any combination of screens at once
- Microphones for full-room audio
- Approximately 2,000 square feet
- 75+ person capacity at 14 cadaver dissection stations
- Instructor station with HD camera and control panel allowing content to be displayed on single screen or any combination of screens at once
- Microphones for full-room audio
- Approximately 400-650 square feet each
- 20-30 person capacity at 3-4 cadaver dissection stations
- Audiovisual boom including lights, monitor, and tablets at each station
- Instructor station with HD camera and control panel allowing content to be displayed on single screen or any combination of screens at once
- Microphones for full-room audio
The Surgical Clinical Simulation Laboratory is an interdisciplinary space designed to provide realistic surgical simulation using cadavers (embalmed or unembalmed) and to allow clinicians to practice surgery and procedures necessary for life-saving care.
- Approximately 650 square feet
- 20-30+ person capacity
- Operating room set up with two flexible stations
- Surgical Lighting
- Fluoroscope available
- HD camera and control panel allowing content to be displayed on single screen or any combination of screens at once and allows for recording and/or broadcast (with prior approval)
- Large assortment of instruments
- Microphones for full-room audio
The Imaging Lab incorporates a variety of resources to assist with three dimensional anatomy. Included in the space are one full male and one full female cross sectional (inch by inch) specimens. Using these specimens, students and clinicians can study, learn, or review cross sectional anatomy to gain an appreciation for 3D anatomy.
Audiovisual (AV) viewing of diagnostic imaging scans are available for review and study. Future inclusion may allow for on-site imaging of cadavers using Diagnostic Ultrasound.
- Approximately 850 square feet
- 20 - 30+ person capacity
- Plated full body cross-sections (male and female)
- Collaborative Technology for cross-sectional anatomy and imaging
- Future plans for diagnostic ultrasound
The Clinical Anatomy Research Laboratory (CARL) is an interdisciplinary research space to support the study and progression of clinical anatomy.
- Approximately 650 square feet
- 20-30 person capacity at three cadaver dissection stations
- Materials Testing System MTSS)
- Dissecting microscope
- Fluoroscope available
- Biomechanical analysis possible
- Audiovisual boom including lights, monitor, and tablets at each station
- Instructor station with HD camera and control panel allowing content to be displayed on single screen or any combination of screens at once
- Microphones for full-room audio
The Institute provides access to prosected specimens and models to support learning and study. These prosections and models are available upon request and will be checked out to the user by Institute staff.
