What is Graduate Medical Education?

Welcome to the Office of Graduate Medical Education at Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯! No matter which of our programs interests you, our faculty and staff are united in our pursuit of a common vision: to extend excellent, life-giving care to patients across the health care spectrum, especially in areas with the most critical needs and shortages.

With our highly regarded faculty and rigorous learning experiences, the graduate medical education offered at Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯ provides fellowships and residency training that will prepare you for excellence as a physician in the medical specialty that most interests you.

Core to the mission is developing high-quality health care professionals via the schools of Medicine, Nursing, the Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy, the School of Health Professions and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

We hold a strong Commitment to Graduate Medical Education. The School of Medicine hosts an impressive 47 ACGME accredited residency and fellowship programs with 587 physicians-in-training on campuses in Lubbock, Amarillo, and Permian Basin. There is a program, campus and place for anyone who shares our determination and who holds our goals and values.

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is a rich and diverse group of physicians, scientists, professionals and support people who join in the agenda of learning, caring and healing. Our dedication resonates off of every individual who works within this influential team. If you are a physician considering further professional development, consider joining us!

Our goals...

The goal of medical education (residency and fellowship training), is to become certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties to practice in a medical specialty.

The Texas Tech residency and fellowship programs are developed in the context of the Physician General Competencies as expressed by the ABMS and the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education).
