Medical Student Research Resources
Apart from the structured research programs offered at the Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯ (MSSRP, Y2MSRP, DMR), we encourage our medical students to undertake independent research to complement their clinical experience and improve their prospects when interviewing for residency. To aid students in reaching this goal, this list combines resources from our various research programs to guide students through the research cycle. This cycle includes generating a research question, preparing for a study, executing the study, and disseminating the results of said research. The resources listed below will help students:
- Find a suitable research question
- Find mentors/collaborators (including faculty researchers)
- Conduct a medical literature review
- Apply for funding/grants
- Prepare for IRB/IACUC approval
- Access medical records through EMR
- Locate Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯ research facilities
- Design basic science/clinical studies
- Avoid violating research regulations
- Manage research data and expectations
- Write a scientific manuscript
- Select a journal for publication
- Present at a conference
While is it not possible to anticipate every need which will arise in the course of executing a research project, these resources cover enough topics to set students up for success in their independent research.
