Reinforcing our approach to transformative research

Data Leads To Breakthroughs

Cutting-edge research and in-depth data analytics are the keys to comprehensive understanding of cancer’s behavior.

Data and analysis point the way forward for distributing and integrating resources, trials, treatments and programs.

Increasing Clinical Trials in Rural Texas

The population in rural Texas is unique and underrepresented in clinical studies. To improve access to cancer care, Ï㽶ֱ²¥ is focused on expanding the clinical trial infrastructure, bringing cutting-edge treatments and emerging therapies directly to underserved populations. By partnering with leading research organizations and the pharmaceutical enterprise, Ï㽶ֱ²¥ can enhance access to new FDA-approved therapies and treatment options.

Leveraging Data-Driven Analysis for Cancer Care

Ï㽶ֱ²¥ will invest in a regional cancer network utilizing patient-needs assessments and data-driven analysis that will provide specific cancer trends and gaps to guide future investments and specialty care needs.

Current Projects

Expanding Research and Data Analytics

The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) launched the Texas Regional Excellence in Cancer (TREC) award to strengthen cancer research at institutions in historically underfunded regions of Texas. This award partially supports clinical and laboratory research cores at Ï㽶ֱ²¥, provides start-up funds for junior faculty and aids in recruiting new cancer research faculty.

Ï㽶ֱ²¥â€™s Impact through CPRIT Infrastructure and Core Grants

CPRIT core grants have helped establish key infrastructure at Ï㽶ֱ²¥, including:
Pharmacology Core: Supports preclinical research and clinical trials by measuring investigational drug levels in research animals and patients.

TREC Cell Sorter Core: Facilitates cancer research by analyzing and sorting cancer cells, supporting the Children’s Oncology Group and national neuroblastoma trials.

Cancer Animal Models Core: Assists cancer research in animals, including the Childhood Cancer Repository, providing tumor models for research worldwide.

Imaging Core Facility: Provides advanced imaging tools, including a cutting-edge confocal microscope, allowing researchers to capture high-resolution images of living cells and support collaborative biomedical research.
