Amarillo Research Symposium


This annual event is a wonderful opportunity for all of the schools on the Amarillo
campus to come together
to talk about research to build collaborations and friendships. The Symposium will
highlight the research
accomplishments of students and faculty in their respective field of study with poster
and oral presentations in morning and afternoon sessions, and a Keynote speaker during
lunch.

Brian Weis, M.D., Ph.D.
Ï㽶ֱ²¥ School of Medicine Dean,
“HIV: The Role of Research in Addressing a Deadly Pandemicâ€
Dr. Weis joined the Ï㽶ֱ²¥ School of Medicine faculty in 2005 as an associate professor of internal medicine. He also served as the residency program director and the internal medicine student clerkship director. In 2015, Weis joined Northwest Texas Healthcare System (NWTHS) as the chief medical officer until he returned to Ï㽶ֱ²¥ in 2023 as the interim regional dean. In 2024, he was officially appointed as the Regional Dean of Ï㽶ֱ²¥ Amarillo School of Medicine.
In addition to his leadership in academic medicine in the region, Weis continues to practice at the Northwest JO Wyatt Clinic and serves as NWTHS Chief of Medicine Services. He is the medical director for LIFESTAR, an air medical transport service, and serves as the president of Scouting America Golden Spread Council.
