Local Faculty Development Courses
Offered Annually
Develop your leadership skills and direct your skills to helping lead the School of Medicine. Participate in varied activities designed to develop your leadership, personal, and professional management skills. Each year the participants will decide what books/theme they would like to discuss and will work in small groups. This course is sponsored by Faculty Affairs and Development.
The course is opened to SOM Lubbock faculty members and meets once a month on Fridays from 1:00pm – 4:00pm September – April. Successful completion (require attendance at 6 of 8 sessions) will be rewarded by a certificate and formal recognition at the Dean’s Faculty Appreciation Dinner.

This is a participant-driven course that focuses on topics in medical education pedagogy and research, looking at recently published articles in relevant medical education journals. Session journals, readings and discussion will be selected, developed, and facilitated by small groups of class participants, to be determined at the first organizational meeting. This course is co-sponsored by the Department of Medical Education, Faculty Affairs and Development and the Teaching Academy.
The course is opened to SOM Lubbock faculty members and meets once a month on Fridays from 12:00noon – 1:30pm (lunch provided) from September – April. Successful completion (required attendance at 5 of 7 sessions) will be rewarded by a certificate and formal recognition at the Dean’s Faculty Appreciation Dinner.

Offered Biennially
This course offered to SOM Lubbock faculty will provide the necessary tools to design your academic career, discuss what the Institution expects in terms of tenure and promotion, as well as explore how you can achieve success as an academician.
The course will meet 12 Thursday mornings from 7:00am – 8:30am from September – November. Next offering will be fall 2019. Successful completion (required attendance at 9 of 12 sessions) will be rewarded by a certificate and formal recognition at the Dean’s Faculty Appreciation Dinner.

This course offered to SOM Lubbock faculty will provide the necessary tools to understand Adult education as well as utilize various techniques in large and small group education, design Medically-related courses and lectures, write exam questions, and even embark on Medical Education Research.
The course will meet 11 Thursday mornings from 7:00am – 8:30am from January - March. Next offering will be spring 2019. Successful completion (required attendance at 8 of 11 sessions) will be rewarded by a certificate and formal recognition at the Dean’s Faculty Appreciation Dinner.

The course will meet 4 Friday afternoons from 1:00pm – 4:00pm (lunch provided) from September – April in Lubbock. Next offering will be fall 2019.
